Frequently Asked Questions

Does the holster fit all versions of Glock 26, 27, and 33?

The manufacturer lists Glock 26, 27, and 33, but compatibility may be affected by firearm generation, optic, raised sights, threaded barrel, and other accessories. Exact fit should always be checked with an unloaded firearm before carrying.

Does the holster fit the Smith & Wesson Shield 9 mm model?

The manufacturer specifically mentions M&P Shield .45 and Shield Plus 9 models. The fit of the original Shield 9 mm or other Shield versions should not be assumed.

Does the holster fit the FN 509C Tactical model?

FN 509 Compact is listed as compatible. The Tactical version’s threaded barrel, higher sights, or other differences may affect fit, so this configuration should be checked separately.

What does “fits most compact double-stack pistols” mean?

This is a general size guideline from the manufacturer, not a guarantee of fit for every compact pistol. Frame width, trigger guard shape, controls, slide length, and optic may affect compatibility.

Can the holster be used with a red dot sight?

Yes. The holster has an optics cutout, but compatibility depends on the sight’s size, mounting location, and height. The sight must not catch on the edge of the holster or touch the metal clip.

Does the holster fit a pistol with a weapon light or laser?

The manufacturer confirms the optics cutout, but not compatibility with a light or laser mounted under the barrel. For such setups, a holster designed for the specific firearm and accessory combination should be used.

Is this a rigid, model-specific holster?

No. The CHPO 57A is a soft holster suitable for several firearm models. Retention relies on the shape and material of the holster and pressure from the belt and body, not a rigid form or adjustable retention screw.

Does the holster have active retention?

No. The open-top holster does not have a retention strap or active locking mechanism. Before carrying, ensure the firearm stays securely in place during movement and the trigger guard is fully covered.

Can the holster be used without an optic?

Yes. The optics cutout generally does not hinder use with standard sights, as long as the pistol otherwise fits CHPO 57A dimensions.

Is the holster suitable for left-handed users?

This variant is made for right-handed draw. Left-handed users should choose the CHPO 57A LH version.

When is the Houston CHPO 57A the right choice?

This holster is suitable for right-handed users who want to carry one of the listed compact pistols from the manufacturer concealed inside the waistband. The optics cutout also makes it a practical choice for a compatible pistol with a red dot sight.

A rigid, model-specific holster may be a better choice if you want adjustable retention, definite locking, or the easiest possible one-handed holstering. If using a weapon light or laser, choose a holster made specifically for that accessory setup.

Expert recommendation

The fit of a soft multi-model holster must be checked exactly with the firearm and sight you intend to carry. With an unloaded firearm, ensure the trigger guard is fully covered, the magazine release and other controls are not activated, and the optic does not snag on the holster edge. The firearm must remain securely in place during normal movement.

The mouth of a soft holster may collapse after drawing the firearm. Do not force the gun into a collapsed holster or place fingers near the trigger guard. If necessary, remove the holster from the waistband and insert the safely cleared firearm into the holster before reattaching. Carry your firearm only in accordance with applicable laws and license conditions.
