Frequently Asked Questions

Do 9×19, 9 mm Luger, and 9 mm Para mean the same caliber?

Yes. For this product, 9×19 mm, 9 mm Luger, 9 mm Para, and 9 mm Parabellum all refer to the same caliber. However, always check the exact caliber marking on your firearm or in its manual before using ammunition.

Is this cartridge suitable for a 9 mm Makarov pistol?

No. 9×19 mm Luger and 9×18 mm Makarov are cartridges of different dimensions and are not interchangeable. Do not force the wrong cartridge into the chamber or attempt to fire it from the firearm.

Is the 9×19 mm cartridge suitable for a .380 Auto or 9 mm Browning Short firearm?

No. .380 Auto or 9×17 mm Browning Short is a different caliber from 9×19 mm Luger. When choosing ammunition, do not rely solely on the general “9 mm” designation.

What does FMJ mean?

FMJ or Full Metal Jacket refers to a bullet with a full metal jacket. The lead core of this cartridge is surrounded by a CuZn30 metal jacket. The bullet is non-expanding and is mainly intended for training, target shooting, and sport shooting.

Is this a +P cartridge?

No. According to the manufacturer, V310492 is not +P ammunition. Nevertheless, always ensure your firearm is designed for 9×19 mm caliber and is in good technical condition before use.

Why might the actual muzzle velocity be lower than 360 m/s?

The manufacturer's ballistic data are measured with a 150 mm test barrel. Many pistol barrels are shorter, so actual muzzle velocity and energy may be lower than the manufacturer’s reference data.

When is S&B 9×19 FMJ the right choice?

This cartridge is a practical choice for 9×19 mm pistol owners who want classic 124-grain FMJ ammunition for regular training, target shooting, or competition shooting. The brass case, standard pressure load, and 50-round package make it ideal for typical range use.

If you want a faster load with a lighter bullet, a 9×19 FMJ with a 115-grain bullet may be suitable. For subsonic use, choose cartridges specifically marked Subsonic, and for special requirements in closed ranges, Nontox ammunition may be more appropriate.

Expert recommendation

The 9×19 FMJ with a 124-grain bullet is one of the most common training loads and is well suited for checking firearm reliability and point of impact. Before purchasing a large quantity, try one box first, as different pistol magazines, chambers, and recoil springs may function slightly differently with the same ammunition.

Before loading, check your firearm’s exact caliber marking and the overall condition of each cartridge. Use ammunition only in technically sound firearms and in appropriate shooting ranges. Always wear hearing and eye protection, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, and wash your hands after handling lead-core ammunition.
