NORMA .308 WIN. FMJ JM 9,7G

Norma Jaktmatch .308 Winchester is loaded with a 9.7 g FMJ bullet for regular range practice, moving-target shooting and checking a hunting rifle’s point of impact. Norma loads Jaktmatch to a velocity range comparable to its hunting ammunition, allowing meaningful practice with a hunting rifle.

The 150 gr bullet has a manufacturer-listed muzzle velocity of 810 m/s and muzzle energy of 3182 J. Its 0.423 G1 ballistic coefficient helps retain velocity as distance increases and also supports longer-distance training.

Frequently asked questions

What does JM mean?

JM refers to Jaktmatch, Norma’s training-ammunition line. It is intended for practice with hunting rifles, target shooting and moving-target training.

What does FMJ mean?

FMJ stands for full metal jacket. The bullet’s core is surrounded by a metal jacket, providing a construction intended for target practice rather than the controlled expansion expected from a hunting bullet.

Is Jaktmatch hunting ammunition?

Jaktmatch is primarily intended for training and target shooting. Its FMJ bullet does not provide the controlled expansion of a hunting bullet. Select a hunting load appropriate for the intended game and local requirements.

Will Jaktmatch and Norma hunting ammunition have the same point of impact?

Norma loads Jaktmatch to a velocity range comparable to its hunting ammunition, and the manufacturer states that the point of impact can be similar to many Norma hunting bullets at standard distances. Exact correspondence must not be assumed, and final zero should be confirmed with the intended hunting load.

Can Jaktmatch be used for riflescope adjustment?

Yes. It is useful for preliminary scope adjustment and checking the rifle’s general point of impact. Final zero for hunting must be confirmed with the specific hunting ammunition intended for field use.

Can it be used in a rifle marked 7.62×51 NATO?

This cartridge is designated .308 Winchester and should only be used when permitted by the firearm manufacturer. Although .308 Winchester and 7.62×51 NATO are dimensionally similar, complete interchangeability must not be assumed.

Is this load suitable for longer-distance practice?

The 0.423 G1 ballistic coefficient helps the bullet retain velocity and energy as distance increases. The load can be used for longer-distance practice, but actual trajectory, wind drift and accuracy must be established with the individual rifle.

What does the 164 m MRD figure mean?

MRD is Norma’s calculated most recommended zeroing distance. With the manufacturer’s 40 mm sight-height assumption, the bullet is approximately 40 mm above the line of sight at 100 m, 16 mm high at 150 m and 58 mm low at 200 m. This trajectory must be verified with the individual rifle.

When is Norma Jaktmatch .308 Winchester the right choice?

Jaktmatch is a practical choice for owners of .308 Winchester rifles who want to practise with the same firearm used for hunting. It is suitable for moving-target training, developing shooting positions, checking groups and making preliminary riflescope adjustments.

RWS CINESHOT is a specialised short-range shooting-cinema cartridge, while Jaktmatch is better suited to general range and distance training. Dedicated match ammunition may be preferable for achieving the smallest possible groups, and expanding hunting ammunition is required for hunting.

Expert recommendation

Whenever possible, use ammunition from the same production lot during a training session. Record group size and average point of impact. Fire a confirmation group when beginning a new lot, as a small change may occur between production batches.

When using Jaktmatch as practice ammunition for a hunting rifle, compare its point of impact with the normal hunting load. Similar muzzle velocity does not guarantee an identical trajectory because bullet shape, construction and ballistic coefficient also influence flight.

Check the firearm’s calibre marking and the condition of every cartridge before loading. Always use appropriate eye and hearing protection and follow all firearm and range-safety rules.
