Frequently asked questions

Is Norma Odin 9.3 × 62 14.9 g suitable for moose and wild boar hunting in Estonia?

Yes. The 9.3 × 62 calibre and 14.9 g expanding bullet meet the minimum calibre and bullet weight requirements for hunting these species.

What is the difference between Norma Odin 14.9 g and Oryx 15.0 g?

Odin has a polymer-tipped lead-free copper bullet. Oryx has a soft-point, partially jacketed bullet with a lead core bonded to the jacket.

What is NAFT surface treatment?

It is a Norma bullet surface treatment designed to reduce friction between the bullet and the barrel.

Is 9.3 × 62 Odin also suitable for a 9.3 × 74 R firearm?

This variant is intended for a rifle chambered in 9.3 × 62. Norma makes a separate Odin cartridge with the same bullet weight for 9.3 × 74 R firearms.

When is Norma Odin 9.3 × 62 the right choice?

Choose Odin 14.9 g if you are looking for a lead-free big game cartridge for a 9.3 × 62 rifle. If you prefer a soft-point, partially jacketed bullet of a similar weight, consider the Norma Oryx 15.0 g cartridge in the same calibre.

Our recommendation

If you are switching from a 9.3 × 62 lead-core hunting cartridge to Odin, take your previous load's shot group data to the shooting range. Compare both the centre and spread of the groups at the same distance. Bullets of similar weight may strike different points because their shapes and cartridge loads differ. Test Odin with the optic and rifle setup you will use for hunting.

Note on the cartridge box which load you used to zero the sight and when you checked the point of impact. During the test series, also pay attention to how the recoil of the cartridge feels in your rifle. If you use the same rifle for both driven and stand hunting, try the new load before the season starts. This will help you assess its suitability for your rifle, optic and hunting method.
