Frequently asked questions

Is the complete cartridge lead-free?

Sellier & Bellot describes the TXRG projectile as a lead-free solid-copper bullet. The product page does not classify the complete cartridge as Nontox ammunition.

What is the purpose of the blue polymer tip?

The tip improves the projectile’s aerodynamic profile and is designed to help initiate expansion on impact.

Will TXRG have the same point of impact as an SP load?

Not necessarily. Bullet weight, construction, muzzle velocity and ballistic coefficient differ. Re-zero the rifle or at least reconfirm its point of impact after changing loads.

Does the 176 m MRD indicate the bullet’s maximum effective range?

No. MRD is a trajectory calculation. It does not define minimum expansion velocity, an ethical hunting distance or the maximum range permitted by law.

  • S&B 6.5×55 SE SP 10.1 g

  • S&B 6.5×55 SE FMJ 8.0 g training ammunition

  • Riflescopes and suitable scope mounts

  • Targets, hearing protection and cleaning equipment

When is S&B 6.5×55 SE TXRG 7.8 g the right choice?

TXRG suits shooters who require or prefer a lead-free expanding hunting bullet. The 7.8 g copper projectile achieves a manufacturer-listed muzzle velocity of 863 m/s and muzzle energy of 2,905 J from a 600 mm test barrel.

An SP load may be preferable when a traditional lead-core soft point is desired. Non-expanding FMJ or match ammunition is normally the more practical choice for regular range training.

Expert recommendation

Solid-copper bullets can group differently from lead-core bullets because of their construction and interaction with the barrel. Always verify accuracy and point of impact in the intended rifle.

Confirm that the calibre, bullet construction and energy comply with the requirements for the intended hunt. Do not determine a suitable shot distance from the MRD figure alone.

Lead-free 6.5×55 SE hunting ammunition

S&B 6.5×55 SE TXRG 7.8 g combines a solid-copper bullet, blue polymer tip and boat-tail base. It is a fast lead-free hunting load with a listed muzzle velocity of 863 m/s.
