Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SP and FMJ?

An SP bullet is designed to expand on impact. FMJ is a non-expanding bullet primarily used for training.

Can this cartridge be used in every 7.62 mm firearm?

No. It may be used only in a firearm specifically marked 7.62×39.

Does the trajectory become considerably more curved beyond 100 metres?

With a 100 m zero, the manufacturer lists 20.3 cm of drop at 200 m and 77.2 cm at 300 m.

When is S&B 7.62×39 SP the right choice?

This loading suits a 7.62×39 hunting firearm when an expanding soft-point bullet is required instead of non-expanding FMJ. Suitability for the intended game must be determined under applicable regulations.

Expert recommendation

Confirm the rifle’s point of impact before hunting and account for the increasingly curved trajectory beyond 100 metres. Use only distances at which the point of impact has been reliably verified.
