Frequently Asked Questions

How many rounds does the Winchester SXR2 Field hold?

The detachable DBM magazine holds two rounds. With a round in the chamber, the rifle's maximum technical capacity is 2+1, if allowed by use case and applicable regulations.

How does the Winchester SXR2 reload?

The rifle uses a gas-operated semi-automatic system. Some of the gas pressure generated when firing is used to eject the empty cartridge case, cycle the mechanism, and chamber the next round.

Does the barrel have a thread for mounting a suppressor?

No. The configuration with product code 531064128 does not have a factory-made muzzle thread. If suppressor use is important, consider the SXR2 Composite with a threaded barrel or another suitable model.

Can a riflescope be mounted on the rifle?

Yes. The SXR2 allows the use of suitable fixed optic mounts or the Browning NOMAD mounting system. For driven hunting, a red dot sight or low-magnification scope is often suitable, but the compatibility of mounts should be checked before purchase.

Is the SXR2 Field suitable for left-handed shooters?

The stock shape and palm rest are ambidextrous, and the direction of the cross-bolt safety can be changed. However, the mechanism, bolt handle, and case ejection are right-handed in design.

How does the SXR2 Field differ from the SXR2 Composite model?

The Field uses a satin-finished Turkish walnut stock and fore-end. The Composite has a more weather-resistant synthetic stock, and some configurations are available with a threaded barrel or left-handed mechanism.

Is .30-06 Springfield suitable for driven hunting?

.30-06 Springfield is a versatile hunting caliber with a wide range of bullet weights and types available. For driven hunting, you must choose a legal hunting cartridge suitable for the specific game, shooting distance, and reliable operation of the rifle.

What are the requirements for purchasing the rifle?

This is a semi-automatic firearm with restricted civilian circulation. Purchase and transfer require the appropriate acquisition permit, and all requirements of firearms law and the seller's sales process must be met.

When is the Winchester SXR2 Field .30-06 the right choice?

The SXR2 Field is suitable for hunters looking for a classic wooden-stocked semi-automatic rifle, especially for driven hunting. The fiber optic front sight, Battue-type rear sight, enlarged bolt handle, and gas-operated reloading support fast and controlled action in changing hunting situations.

The SXR2 Composite is a more practical alternative if the rifle is often used in rain, snow, or other demanding conditions for wood. A bolt-action rifle with a threaded barrel is preferable if your main needs are suppressor use, the simplest possible mechanism, and precision shooting from a rest. The pump-action SXR2 may be suitable if manual cycling is preferred.

Recommendations

Before hunting, test the rifle with several suitable .30-06 Springfield hunting cartridges at a certified shooting range. With a semi-automatic rifle, in addition to shot placement, it is important to ensure that the chosen ammunition works reliably with the gas system and magazine. After mounting optics, confirm the point of impact and check the usability of the open sights.

Adjust the stock with the included spacers so the rifle mounts quickly and naturally to your shoulder. In driven hunting, it is important that the sight picture appears without searching for head position, and that the safety and bolt handle are easily operable with gloves.

The gas-operated mechanism requires regular cleaning. After shooting or using the rifle in damp conditions, clean the barrel, bolt mechanism, and gas system according to the manufacturer's instructions and dry the wooden parts. Do not use excessive oil in the mechanism, as it can collect powder residue and dirt.
