Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Bore Boss suitable for 12/70, 12/76, and 12/89 firearms?

12/70, 12/76, and 12/89 indicate chamber length, but all have a 12 gauge bore. The Bore Boss is suitable for 12 GA barrels unless the firearm manufacturer specifies a different maintenance method.

Can the barrel be fully cleaned with a single pull?

One pull removes loose dirt and some residue, but heavily fouled barrels may require multiple passes or more thorough cleaning with a rod, brush, and patches.

Can the Bore Boss be used with cleaning solution?

If needed, a small amount of cleaning solution suitable for the barrel material can be used. The cleaning cord should not be excessively soaked, and the chemical instructions must be followed.

Can the 12 GA Bore Boss be used for 16 or 20 gauge firearms?

No. The brush and braided cleaning section are sized for 12 gauge. For smaller calibers, select the Bore Boss specifically for that gauge.

Does the Bore Boss replace a traditional cleaning rod?

It is well suited for quick and regular maintenance. Thorough removal of copper, lead, or plastic residue, as well as separate cleaning of the chamber, may require a cleaning rod and specialized brushes.

How should the cleaning cord be stored?

After use, remove major dirt, let the cleaning section dry completely, and only then place the cable in the Flex-Case. Do not store a wet or chemically saturated cord in a closed case.

When is the Real Avid Bore Boss 12 GA the right choice?

The Bore Boss is a good choice for quick maintenance at the range, on a hunt, or at home. The cable, brush, and braided cleaning section form a compact system that does not require assembling a separate cleaning rod and fits easily with your gear.

For heavy fouling, lead, or plastic residue, consider a more thorough cleaning kit. The Bore Boss does not clean the chamber or interchangeable choke threads as thoroughly as special brushes designed for those areas.

Recommendations

We recommend pulling the Bore Boss in the direction allowed by the firearm manufacturer's instructions and avoiding abrupt jerking of the cable. Before use, check that the cable, brush, and braided section are intact and that there are no foreign objects in the bore. If the cable gets stuck, do not increase force before identifying the cause.

After a wet hunting day, the Bore Boss helps remove loose dirt and moisture from the bore, but the firearm still needs thorough drying and corrosion protection for metal surfaces. The braided section should be cleaned regularly, as a dirty cleaning cord can transfer contaminants back into the barrel during the next use. Keep cleaning tools for each caliber separate and check the caliber marking on the case before use.

Compact quick cleaning for 12 gauge firearms

The Real Avid Bore Boss 12 GA combines a long pull cable, phosphor bronze brush, and braided cleaning section in a self-closing Flex-Case. It is a practical tool for regular maintenance of smoothbore firearms at home, at the range, or on a hunt.
