Frequently asked questions

What do the ceramic additives do?

The ceramic microparticles reduce direct metal-to-metal contact between friction surfaces. Under load, they help smooth microscopic irregularities at contact points, reducing friction and wear. This is particularly useful on bolts, slides and other moving metal components.

Is GunCer suitable for semi-automatic firearms?

Yes. GunCer is suitable for semi-automatic pistols and rifles. Reduced friction can decrease energy loss during cycling and support more consistent mechanism operation. It cannot, however, correct malfunctions caused by worn components, heavy fouling or unsuitable ammunition.

What does lubrication up to +1000 °C mean?

The normal operating range of the oil is –40 to +210 °C. The manufacturer’s +1000 °C figure refers to the emergency-lubrication capability of the ceramic particles after the liquid oil film has been lost. It does not mean that the oil or every firearm component can continuously withstand this temperature.

How does the 50 ml aerosol differ from the 100 ml GunCer oil?

Both versions provide the same principal lubricating and protective properties. The 50 ml aerosol is more compact and convenient for quickly reaching confined mechanism areas. The 100 ml liquid bottle contains more oil and is better suited to precise drop-by-drop application.

What is the difference between GunCer oil and GunCer grease?

GunCer oil penetrates confined areas more readily and suits fast-moving mechanisms. Thicker GunCer grease generally remains longer on heavily loaded sliding and locking surfaces. The appropriate product depends on the firearm’s design and maintenance instructions.

Can GunCer be applied inside the barrel?

A very thin film can be used to protect the bore during storage, but the barrel and chamber must be wiped dry before firing. Visible oil should be removed because excess lubricant can interfere with normal operation and may cause undesirable pressure effects.

Is GunCer intended for intensive barrel cleaning?

GunCer is primarily a lubricating and protective oil. Use a dedicated bore cleaner for heavy powder, copper or tombac fouling, and apply GunCer to the required friction points after cleaning.

How should the aerosol be used safely?

Use it in a well-ventilated location and keep it away from heat, sparks and open flames. Do not spray it towards an ignition source or pierce or burn the container, even when empty. Protect the can from sunlight and do not expose it to temperatures above +50 °C.

When is Ballistol GunCer 50 ml the right choice?

GunCer 50 ml is suitable for users who need a compact, easily carried aerosol for lubricating moving firearm components. It is a practical option for hunters and sport shooters who want to keep gun oil in a range or hunting bag and reach confined parts of the mechanism when required.

A larger liquid bottle is more economical for regular workshop use and controlled drop-by-drop application. Thicker GunCer grease may remain longer on heavily loaded sliding surfaces. A separate bore cleaner is required for substantial copper or tombac deposits.

Expert recommendation

Before maintenance, confirm that the firearm is unloaded, the magazine has been removed and the chamber is empty. Follow the firearm manufacturer’s lubrication diagram, as not every mechanism component should be oiled. Use short bursts or spray a small amount onto a cloth or cleaning tool instead of saturating the mechanism. This helps prevent oil from reaching optics, ammunition and components intended to operate dry.

GunCer is particularly useful on slide rails, bolt-bearing surfaces and other manufacturer-approved contact points. Wipe away visible excess after application because too much oil attracts dust and powder residue. The bore and chamber must be dry before firing. Store the aerosol in a cool, ventilated location away from ignition sources and temperatures above +50 °C.

Ceramic lubrication in a compact aerosol

Ballistol GunCer reduces friction and wear between moving firearm components while providing water and corrosion resistance. Its wide operating range, non-resinifying formulation and silicone- and PTFE-free composition make the 50 ml aerosol a practical portable maintenance product.
