Frequently Asked Questions

Does the package include one ring or a pair of rings?

Despite the use of the singular in the product description, the set includes two scope mounting rings. Product code S1300929 refers to a pair of 30 mm Low rings.

Are Optilock bases included in the set?

No. This is a set of rings, and suitable Optilock bases for your firearm must be selected separately. The type of base depends on the firearm and its existing mounting rail.

Are these rings suitable for a Tikka T3x rifle?

Yes, if compatible Optilock bases are installed on the firearm. The rings are not attached directly to the Tikka receiver rail, but to the Optilock bases.

What does the 30 mm marking mean?

This indicates the outer diameter of the main tube of the optical sight. It does not indicate the size of the objective lens – for example, a 3–12×50 scope may have a 30 mm main tube and a 50 mm objective.

Are Low rings suitable for a scope with a 50 or 56 mm objective?

Suitability depends on the actual outer diameter of the objective housing, the Optilock base used, the rifle barrel profile, and the scope covers. Sufficient clearance cannot be guaranteed based solely on the 50 or 56 mm marking on the objective.

What are the polymer inserts in the rings for?

Polymer inserts help align the main tube of the scope and distribute the clamping pressure. They also reduce direct metal-to-scope contact and help prevent damage to the finish.

Are the rings suitable for direct mounting on a Picatinny rail?

No. These rings require suitable Optilock bases. For use with a Picatinny or Weaver rail, you need to choose Optilock bases with the appropriate interface or rings specifically designed for that rail.

Can I install the scope mount myself?

Installation is possible with the right tools and by following the manufacturer's instructions. To avoid damaging the scope or the mount shifting, use the correct torque. If in doubt, it is advisable to have the work done by a gunsmith.

When is the Optilock Tikka T3 Low 30 mm the right choice?

This ring set is suitable if your optical sight has a 30 mm main tube, the firearm uses the correct Optilock bases, and the low mount leaves enough space between the objective and the barrel. The low position can improve cheek weld and make aiming more natural.

For scopes with a small objective, consider Extra Low rings as well. For large objectives, thick scope covers, or a high barrel profile, Medium or High rings may be more suitable. If your firearm has a Picatinny rail and you do not wish to use separate Optilock bases, choose a ring set designed specifically for direct Picatinny mounting.

Expert advice

Before ordering rings, check three measurements: the main tube diameter, the actual outer diameter of the objective housing, and the required clearance between the objective and the barrel. The “30 mm” marking only describes the main tube and does not automatically guarantee that Low rings are suitable for a large objective scope.

When installing, first set the eye relief and ensure that the bolt handle, magnification ring, and scope covers move freely. Tighten the screws evenly and to the torque specified in the manufacturer’s manual – excessive force may damage the scope tube or mounting screws. Polymer inserts protect the optics and help align it, but they do not compensate for an incorrectly chosen base or mounting height.

After installation, the firearm should be zeroed at the shooting range. After the first series of shots, check that the mount remains secure, always following firearm and optics safety instructions.

Low and strong Optilock mount for 30 mm scopes

Optilock Tikka T3 Low 30 mm combines a steel construction, low mounting position, and polymer inserts that protect the scope. When your firearm has suitable Optilock bases and there is enough clearance for the scope objective, this is a reliable choice for mounting optics on a hunting or sporting rifle.
