Frequently Asked Questions

Is the CS-97JMS a Kukri Machete?

No. Product code CS-97JMS refers to the Cold Steel Jungle Machete model. Its blade is officially Bolo-shaped. The Kukri Machete is a different Cold Steel model with a different blade profile.

How long is the Cold Steel Jungle Machete blade?

The blade length is 406 mm or 16 inches. The overall machete length is approximately 559 mm, and the handle is 152 mm long.

Is the machete delivered sharpened?

Yes. According to the manufacturer, the Jungle Machete comes ready to use with a sharpened blade. Before use, always check the condition of the blade, handle, and sheath.

Can 65Mn carbon steel rust?

Yes. The black finish helps protect the blade from corrosion, but it does not make it stainless. After use, clean and dry the blade, and if necessary, apply a thin layer of oil.

Is the machete suitable for felling thick trees?

This model is primarily intended for cutting brush, shoots, vines, and thinner branches. For regular processing of thick or very hard wood, it is safer and more effective to use a properly sized axe or saw.

Is a sheath included?

Yes. The machete comes with a Cor-Ex sheath, which protects the blade and makes transporting and storing the tool safer.

When is the Cold Steel Jungle Machete the right choice?

The Jungle Machete is suitable for users who need a long-bladed tool for quickly removing brush, vines, shoots, and thinner branches. The Bolo-shaped blade and forward-weighted balance increase chopping power, making this model especially effective for cutting tasks.

For lighter precision cuts and food preparation, a fixed-blade outdoor knife is more suitable. For regular processing of thicker wood, firewood, or hard dry branches, an axe or saw is recommended. A shorter machete may be more convenient in dense forest or when compact transport size is essential.

Expert recommendation

The strength of the Cold Steel Jungle Machete lies in the combination of its long Bolo-shaped blade and forward-weighted balance. This makes cutting brush and thinner branches efficient, but requires enough working space and controlled movements from the user. Before starting work, clear the area of people, animals, and objects, and use protective gloves, safety glasses, and appropriate footwear.

65Mn carbon steel is strong and suitable for chopping, but requires more maintenance than stainless steel. After cutting wet vegetation, clean plant sap from the blade, dry it thoroughly, and apply a thin layer of oil if needed. Regularly check the handle and sheath as well. Do not use the machete as a lever, hammer, or shovel, and avoid striking stone, metal, or wire hidden in the ground. The blade must always be in the sheath during transport and storage.
