Frequently Asked Questions

Is the SXR Pump Compo semi-automatic?

No. After each shot, the forend must be manually pulled back and pushed forward. The spring assists the movement, but the rifle does not automatically chamber the next round.

Does the barrel have a suppressor thread?

Yes. The 530 mm barrel has an M14×1 muzzle thread. The chosen suppressor or muzzle device must fit both the thread and the .308 caliber.

How many cartridges does the magazine hold?

The detachable magazine holds four cartridges. With a round in the chamber, the rifle's maximum technical capacity is 4+1, but you must follow applicable hunting restrictions.

Can the rifle be used with open sights?

Yes. The Compo configuration features fiber optic driven hunt sights for fast aiming. To use an optical sight, choose a mount compatible with the receiver.

Is the synthetic stock maintenance-free?

No. The synthetic stock is highly resistant to moisture, but the barrel, receiver, mechanism, and fasteners still require cleaning and drying after use in wet conditions.

What are the requirements for purchasing the firearm?

This is a restricted civilian firearm. The buyer must undergo identity verification and present a valid license required for acquisition.

When is the Winchester SXR Pump Compo the right choice?

This is a suitable model for the hunter who wants fast but fully manually controlled cycling. The synthetic stock, fiber optic sights, and .308 Winchester caliber are a great fit for active driven hunts and changing weather conditions.

The Field version is a better choice if you prefer the feel of a traditional wooden stock. A bolt-action rifle may be better suited for calm precision shooting, while a semi-automatic model is for users who want automatic cycling.

Recommendations

Practice using the pump action first with an unloaded and safely checked firearm, following the manufacturer's instructions. The forend must be pulled fully to the rear and then firmly pushed fully forward—a movement that is too cautious or incomplete may cause a feeding malfunction. While practicing, focus on keeping the rifle shouldered and your finger outside the trigger guard during cycling.

.308 Winchester offers a wide selection of ammunition, but the specific cartridge should be chosen according to the game, shooting situation, and legal requirements. If you install a suppressor, consider the increased overall length and altered balance of the rifle. After installing a suppressor or optic, check the mounts and confirm the point of impact at the range. To maintain reliable operation, regularly clean the action rails and chamber.
