Frequently Asked Questions

Is the rod suitable for all calibers?

The rod is marketed as a universal model, but the brush, jag, patch holder, and patch used must match the specific caliber. For firearms with a small bore, the rod diameter should also be checked.

What is the benefit of a rotating handle?

The ball-bearing handle allows the rod to follow the rifling as it rotates, reducing torsional load on the brush and tip.

Can the rod be inserted from the muzzle?

It is preferable to clean from the chamber end. If this is not possible, use a muzzle guide to protect the barrel and avoid lateral pressure on the rod.

When is Hoppe’s 1PSS the right choice?

The 1PSS is suitable for a permanent home maintenance station where the transport length of a one-piece rod is not an issue. It is more rigid and has no section joints.

For carrying in a gun case, the three-section 3PSS or 3PU is more compact. For small calibers, a thinner caliber-specific rod may be more suitable.

Recommendations

We recommend using a chamber guide for the rod and selecting a brush or jag that precisely matches the caliber. Keep the rod aligned with the bore axis and do not apply excessive force. Wipe the stainless steel rod clean after each pass to prevent soot or metal particles from being reintroduced into the barrel. Always check that the firearm is unloaded before cleaning, and ensure the bore is dry and unobstructed before shooting.

Rigid universal rod for thorough maintenance

Hoppe’s 1PSS combines a one-piece stainless steel construction, rotating handle, and universal usability. It is a practical choice for a gun maintenance bench.
