Frequently asked questions

Which size Westin Forceps should I choose?

M size is suitable for handling smaller fish and finer rigs. L is a good all-round choice, while XL offers more reach for removing hooks from larger fish or deeply embedded hooks.

Can these forceps cut through hooks?

No. Westin Forceps are designed for gripping and removing hooks, not for cutting strong hook wire. Use dedicated cutting pliers for cutting hooks.

Are the forceps suitable for removing pike hooks?

The XL size may be suitable for removing visible and safely accessible hooks. For large pike or lures lodged deep in the mouth, longer hook removal pliers are often a safer choice.

How should I care for stainless steel forceps?

Rinse the forceps with clean water after use, remove dirt, and allow the tool to dry completely. If necessary, apply a small amount of suitable maintenance oil to the joint.

When is Westin Forceps the right choice?

Westin Forceps are the right choice when you need a compact and precise tool for gripping single, double, or treble hooks. The straight jaws and cross-patterned surface help hold the hook securely, making these forceps suitable for many common fishing methods.

For smaller fish and fine rigs, the M size is usually sufficient. L is a versatile general-purpose option, while XL offers more reach for deeply embedded hooks. For very large fish, deeply lodged lures, or strong pike hooks, it is advisable to use longer forceps and separate cutting pliers.

Recommendation

Choose the length of the forceps according to the fish you are targeting and the hooks you are using. The 14 cm model is convenient for precise handling of small hooks, but for larger predatory fish, the 16 or 20.5 cm forceps provide more distance between your hand and the hook.

Before removing the hook, stabilize the fish as much as possible and avoid having a taut line or freely moving treble hooks near your hand. Grip the hook as close to the bend as possible using the cross-patterned jaws and remove it with a controlled movement opposite to the direction of entry. If the hook is dangerously deep or removal may injure the fish further, cut the leader or hook with suitable cutting pliers if necessary.

After fishing, rinse and dry the forceps. Regularly check jaw alignment, joint movement, and the cleanliness of the gripping surface to ensure the tool maintains a secure and precise operation.

Precise stainless steel hook removal forceps

Westin Forceps Stainless Steel combine a durable stainless steel construction, straight jaws, and a secure cross-patterned gripping surface. Three sizes allow you to choose the right tool for controlled removal of hooks from both smaller fish and larger predators.
