Frequently asked questions

How does the 52 g Sinking version differ from the 47 g Slow Sinking model?

The 52 g Sinking version sinks faster and is better suited to fishing mid-depth or deeper water. The 47 g Slow Sinking version stays higher in the water column for longer during pauses.

How does the Inline Rig System work?

When a fish is hooked, the hook rig releases from the lure body. This reduces the leverage created by the lure body and helps keep the soft lure away from the fish’s teeth.

Is the lure ready to use immediately?

Yes. The lure is equipped with a Jointed Stinger HD hook rig, a wire leader and a release plug. However, all connections and hooks should be checked before the first cast.

What rod casting weight is required?

The rod’s casting weight range must include at least 52 grams. The total weight of the rig should also be taken into account, and it is advisable to leave some margin below the rod’s maximum casting weight.

When is Westin Ricky the Roach Inline 15 cm 52 g the right choice?

This version is a good choice when a 15 cm baitfish profile is suitable but the lure needs to reach mid-depth or deeper water more quickly. The sinking body is suitable for fishing drop-offs, deeper weed edges and the water beneath schools of baitfish.

For shallow water and particularly slow fishing, the 15 cm / 47 g Slow Sinking version is easier to control. To imitate larger prey fish or target big pike in deeper water, consider the 20 or 25 cm Ricky the Roach Inline.

Our recommendation

We recommend letting the lure sink for a controlled period after casting and starting the retrieve before it reaches the bottom. On the first few casts, test the sinking time in shallow, clearly visible water, as the actual sinking speed depends on the line, rig, water temperature and depth.

A steady, slow retrieve brings out the Ricky the Roach’s natural S-shaped action. When fish are active, add changes in retrieve speed, rod twitches and short pauses. After hooking a fish or hitting an obstacle, check the inline rig and put the release plug back in the correct position. The soft lure should be stored straight and, if possible, in its original packaging, away from other types of soft plastic lures.
