Frequently asked questions

What does Slow Sinking mean?

Slow Sinking means the lure is designed to sink slowly. During a pause, it sinks gently, allowing you to fish shallow and mid-depth water without it dropping quickly to the bottom.

What is the additional attachment eye under the lure’s chin for?

A Westin Switch Weight can be attached to it. The additional weight increases the sinking rate and allows the same lure to be used in deeper water.

How does the Inline Rig System work?

When a fish is hooked, the hook rig releases from the lure’s body. This reduces the leverage created by the large lure and helps keep the soft lure away from the fish’s teeth.

What rod should I use with this lure?

The rod’s casting weight range must include at least 45 grams. When adding a Switch Weight, consider the combined weight of the lure and the additional weight, and leave a sufficient margin below the rod’s maximum casting weight.

When is the Westin Tommy the Trout Inline 15 cm the right choice?

This 15 cm, 45 g version is suitable for pike fishing in shallow and mid-depth water when you want to offer a realistic trout imitation to predatory fish. Its slow-sinking construction allows for long pauses and a gentle presentation.

The Ricky the Roach Inline is a better choice when the main baitfish in the water is roach or rudd. For targeting larger pike and imitating large baitfish, you can choose a 20, 25 or 30 cm Tommy the Trout model. For deeper water, a suitable Switch Weight can be added to the 15 cm version.

Our recommendation

We recommend starting with a slow, steady retrieve and checking the Tommy the Trout’s action near the boat or shore. The lure starts working at speeds as low as approximately 2 km/h, making it well suited to cold water and inactive fish. Short pauses allow the lure to sink slowly and imitate an injured trout.

If you are fishing deeper water, use the attachment eye under the chin to add a suitable Switch Weight. Always include the additional weight when considering the rod’s permitted casting weight. Before each fishing trip, check the wire trace, swivels, release plug and hook sharpness. After hooking a fish or hitting an obstruction, return the rig to its correct position and store the soft lure straight, preferably in its original packaging.
