Frequently asked questions

What does SW mean in the model name?

SW means Saltwater, indicating the saltwater version. This model uses stronger hooks and split rings than the standard Swim Glidebait, as well as a wire running through the entire lure body.

Does Coral Trout refer to the lure's target fish?

No. Coral Trout is the name of the colour scheme for this particular variant. The lure can be used to target various saltwater and freshwater predatory fish.

How should the Westin Swim SW Glidebait be retrieved?

The lure can be retrieved at a steady slow or fast pace. For a wider side-to-side action, use rod twitches, changes in retrieve speed and regular pauses.

Is a 60 g lure suitable for every spinning rod?

No. The rod's casting weight range must include a 60 g lure, and the reel, line, leader and connections must withstand both casting the lure and the strain of the fish being targeted.

Can the lure be used for pike fishing in freshwater?

Yes. Although the Swim SW is designed for saltwater fishing, its strong construction and glidebait-style action also make it suitable for pike fishing. A bite-resistant wire trace or leader of suitable strength must be used.

When is the Westin Swim SW Glidebait 12 cm 60 g the right choice?

This 12 cm and 60 g variant is suitable when you need a strong, sinking glidebait that casts well in the wind. The SW construction is an advantage when fishing for large fish, in strong currents or saltwater, and with heavier tackle.

The standard Westin Swim Glidebait is a better choice when fishing primarily in freshwater and such a strong saltwater construction is not needed. The lighter 10 cm / 35 g SW version is better suited to shallower water and lighter tackle, while the 15 cm / 125 g model is suited to fishing for large predatory fish with particularly heavy tackle.

Our recommendation

Before your first fishing trip, we recommend checking that the rod's casting weight, line, leader and lure snap are suitable for a 60 g lure. A heavy glidebait puts considerable strain on connections during casting, and a worn snap or damaged line can cause the lure to be lost. Use a bite-resistant wire trace when fishing for pike.

Start with a steady slow retrieve and watch the lure's side-to-side movement. Then add occasional rod twitches, bursts of speed and pauses. With a sinking lure, you can change the fishing depth by adjusting the sinking time, but in shallow or rocky water you should start retrieving sooner to avoid contact with the bottom. After saltwater fishing, rinse the lure, hooks and rings with freshwater, dry them and check for signs of corrosion.
