Frequently asked questions

Are the Pantera 256 Mini and Pantera 256 Q the same model?

No. The Pantera 256 Mini carries product code PA2M-25, while the older Pantera 256 Q is PA2Q-25. Specifications published in Pantera 256 Q reviews, including its NETD value, should not automatically be applied to the Mini model.

What does NETD ≤15 mK mean?

NETD describes the detector’s ability to distinguish small temperature differences. A lower value generally helps separate a heat source from its background in cold, humid, foggy or otherwise low-contrast conditions.

Can game be identified reliably at 1,200 m?

No. The 1,200 m figure is a manufacturer-specified thermal detection distance rather than a reliable identification or shooting distance. Identification takes place at a substantially shorter range and depends on target size, weather and terrain.

Does the Pantera 256 Mini have a laser rangefinder?

No. It has no integrated LRF. Distance must be entered manually into the ballistic calculator or established with a separate rangefinder.

Is a 256 × 192 detector sufficient for hunting?

It is best suited to short- and medium-range use. A 384 × 288 or 640 × 512 detector normally provides better detail at longer distances but also makes the device more expensive.

Can the riflescope record a shot automatically?

Yes. Recoil-activated recording can automatically start or preserve a recording when a shot is fired. The function must be enabled and tested in advance.

Does the ballistic calculator replace zeroing the rifle?

No. It provides a calculated reference based on the entered information but does not replace live-fire zeroing with the actual rifle and ammunition. Muzzle velocity, barrel length, atmospheric conditions and distance accuracy all affect the real point of impact.

Will ordinary 30 mm scope rings fit?

The main tube has a 30 mm diameter, but ring height, rail type, eye relief and objective clearance must also suit the rifle. The supplied rings are intended for a 22 mm rail.

When is the PARD Pantera 256 Mini the right choice?

The Pantera 256 Mini is suited to hunters who want an accessible, lightweight thermal riflescope with good thermal sensitivity and a familiar 30 mm mounting system. Its 25 mm objective and 3.6× base magnification work particularly well in woodland, from a high seat and across smaller open areas.

A 384 × 288 or 640 × 512 model is preferable when long-range detail is the main priority. Users requiring automatic distance measurement should select an LRF-equipped model or carry a separate laser rangefinder.

Expert recommendation

Install the riflescope with suitable 30 mm rings and verify correct eye relief, mounting height and objective clearance. Zero the firearm with the ammunition that will actually be used, and reconfirm the zero after removing the mount or after a substantial impact.

When using the ballistic calculator, enter a measured distance and verified ammunition information. Because this model has no integrated rangefinder, an incorrect distance estimate can introduce more error than the calculator itself.

Scan at the base magnification and apply digital zoom only after locating the relevant heat source. Digital magnification enlarges the existing image but does not add native detector detail. Brief interruptions caused by the mechanical shutter’s calibration cycle are normal.

Carry a charged spare battery during extended use. Use the thermal sight only where legally permitted and always follow established firearm-safety procedures.

Compact thermal performance in a familiar format

The PARD Pantera 256 Mini combines a sensitive ≤15 mK thermal detector, a 1920 × 1080 OLED display, a conventional 30 mm tube and recording functions in a device weighing approximately 500 g. It is a practical option for short- and medium-range users who do not require an integrated laser rangefinder.
