Frequently asked questions

What does 8×42 mean?

The first number indicates 8× magnification, while the second is the 42 mm objective diameter. This combination provides a useful balance between magnification, field of view, low-light performance and carrying weight.

What is the benefit of ED glass?

ED glass helps reduce visible colour fringing around high-contrast subjects. This produces a cleaner image and makes fine detail and natural colours easier to distinguish.

Is this binocular suitable for eyeglass wearers?

Yes. It has 17 mm of eye relief and adjustable twist-up eyecups. Eyeglass wearers should normally twist the eyecups down to see as much of the field of view as possible.

Can the Hawke Endurance ED 8×42 be used on a boat?

The binocular is nitrogen-purged, waterproof and fog proof, but it is not a dedicated Marine model with a floating strap. Hawke Endurance ED Marine optics are the better choice for regular use on the water.

Recommended products

• An 8×32 binocular for lower carrying weight

• A 10×42 binocular for additional detail at longer distances

• An 8×42 monocular for compact one-handed observation

• A binocular harness for extended carrying

• A lens-cleaning pen and microfibre cloth

• Marine binoculars for regular boating use

When is the Hawke Endurance ED 8×42 the right choice?

This model is well suited to users who want one binocular for hunting, birdwatching, hiking and general nature observation. Eight-power magnification is easy to hold steadily, while the 133 m field of view helps locate subjects quickly in woodland or follow moving wildlife.

Choose an 8×32 model when minimum weight is more important than low-light capability. A 10×42 binocular reveals more distant detail in open terrain but has a narrower field of view and shows more hand movement. A binocular with 50 mm objectives may provide additional light-gathering capability in very dim conditions.

Expert recommendation

The 8×42 format is one of the safest all-purpose choices for most users. It provides enough magnification to study birds and wildlife while remaining steady enough for comfortable handheld viewing. The Hawke Endurance ED’s 133 m field of view is particularly useful in woodland and when following moving subjects. Its 2 m close-focus distance also makes it suitable for observing insects, plants and nearby detail.

Before regular use, adjust the interpupillary distance and right-eye dioptre to match your eyesight. If the binocular will be carried throughout the day, a harness distributes its 705 g weight more comfortably than a standard neck strap. When cleaning the lenses, first remove loose dust with air or a soft brush before using the lens cloth. This reduces the risk of scratching the coated optical surfaces.

A versatile binocular for hunting and nature observation

The Hawke Endurance ED 8×42 combines ED glass, a wide field of view and weather-resistant construction in a well-balanced 8×42 format. It is a practical choice for users who want clear optics, comfortable handling and broad everyday usability.
