Frequently asked questions

Is the Nocpix QUEST H35R a thermal riflescope?

No. The QUEST H35R is a handheld thermal imaging binocular, not a firearm-mounted sight. It has no firearm mount, and its main purposes are scanning the surroundings, detecting heat sources and measuring distance.

Can the thermal binocular be used during the day?

Yes. A thermal imager detects heat radiation rather than visible light, so the QUEST H35R can be used in daylight, at night and in complete darkness. The objective should not be pointed towards the sun, lasers or other intense heat sources.

Does the 1,800 m detection range mean that a subject can be identified at that distance?

No. Detection range describes the potential ability to notice the presence of a human-sized heat source under suitable conditions. Reliable recognition and identification distances are considerably shorter and depend on target size, thermal contrast, weather and the operator’s experience.

What is the range of the integrated laser rangefinder?

The integrated Class 1 laser rangefinder has a maximum reach of 1,000 metres and supports both single and continuous ranging. Actual performance depends on target size, reflectivity, measurement angle and atmospheric conditions.

Why is the 35 mm objective useful on the H35R?

Together with the 640 × 512 detector, the 35 mm F0.9 objective provides a broad 22 × 18 m field of view at 100 metres. This helps cover a larger area quickly, locate moving wildlife and observe woodland or mixed terrain.

How does the QUEST H35R differ from the H50R?

The H35R has a 35 mm F0.9 objective, 3× base magnification, a 22 × 18 m field of view and a detection rating of up to 1,800 m. The H50R uses a 50 mm F1.1 objective, 4× base magnification and a narrower 15 × 12 m field of view, but extends detection to 2,600 m. The H35R is better suited to mixed terrain and wide-area scanning, while the H50R favours longer distances.

How does the QUEST H35R differ from the L35R?

The H35R uses a 640 × 512 detector, while the L35R has a 384 × 288 detector. Both use a 35 mm F0.9 objective and have a detection rating of up to 1,800 m, but the H35R provides a wider field of view, lower base magnification and more image detail. The L35R is the more economical option for users who prefer a higher starting magnification.

How does the dual-battery system work?

The device combines a built-in 4,200 mAh battery with a replaceable 18650 battery. The internal battery keeps the binocular operating while the removable battery is being changed, allowing observation to continue without restarting the device.

Can the thermal binocular see through branches, fog or rain?

It cannot see through tree trunks, dense vegetation or other solid obstacles. Thermal imaging may help reveal a heat source through gaps in foliage and can outperform visible-light optics in darkness or moderately reduced visibility. Dense fog, heavy rain and high humidity still reduce thermal contrast and detection performance.

What does electronic image stabilization do?

Electronic image stabilization helps reduce visible movement caused by hand shake. Its effect is particularly useful at higher digital magnifications, although it does not replace a steady viewing position or a tripod.

When is the Nocpix QUEST H35R the right choice?

The QUEST H35R is well suited to users who want the detail of a 640 × 512 detector but prefer a wider field of view than a 50 mm model provides. Its 3× base magnification and 22 × 18 m field of view make it practical in woodland, along field edges and wherever an animal may appear relatively close or move quickly across the scene.

The QUEST H50R is the more suitable option for open terrain and predominantly long-distance observation. The L35R is more economical, but its 384 × 288 detector does not provide the same level of detail as the H35R’s 640 × 512 sensor. A single-eyepiece thermal monocular is normally lighter and more compact, whereas the QUEST provides a more natural two-eye viewing experience during longer sessions.

This model is particularly useful for users who want an observation tool that remains separate from the firearm. The binocular can be used to scan safely, follow an animal’s movement and measure distance without turning a firearm towards the observation area.

Expert recommendation

Before extended use, adjust the interpupillary distance and the dioptre for each eye until the display and its symbols appear sharp without effort. Then focus the objective for the subject being observed. Correct eyepiece adjustment reduces eye strain and makes fine image details easier to notice.

Use the 3× base magnification and wide field of view when searching an area. Increase magnification only after finding a heat source, as strong digital magnification reduces the amount of visible detail. In cold weather, carry spare batteries protected and, where practical, in a warm inner pocket. Remove loose dust before wiping the objective, and never point the thermal imager towards the sun, a laser or another intense heat source.

A wide field of view with detailed thermal imaging

The Nocpix QUEST H35R combines a 640 × 512 thermal detector, 35 mm F0.9 objective, wide field of view and 1,000 m laser rangefinder in an ergonomic binocular format. Its dual-battery system, image stabilization, 64 GB of storage and comfortable two-eye viewing make it a well-balanced choice for woodland, mixed terrain and extended observation.
