Frequently Asked Questions

What sounds does the Johnny Stewart 3-N-1 produce?

The call has three sounds: a small rodent Mouse Coaxer, a cottontail rabbit, and a larger jack rabbit distress imitation. The sounds differ in pitch, volume, and effective range.

How do you switch between the three calls?

Select the desired mode by rotating the mouthpiece. The construction allows you to change the sound quickly and with minimal hand movement, helping to reduce movement noticeable to predators.

When should you use the Coaxer mode?

The Coaxer is a quieter close-range mode. It is suitable for smaller hunting areas, calm weather, or for attracting predators that have already approached closer.

When should you use the long-range mode?

The long-range mode produces a louder sound and is suitable for open terrain and windier conditions. For a nearby predator, a call that is too loud may be unnecessary.

Is the call suitable for predator hunting in Estonia?

Distress-type calls for small animals are used for luring, among others, foxes and jackals. Always check the current hunting law and regulations for permitted hunting times, methods, and equipment.

Is the predator call suitable for beginners?

The rotating mouthpiece makes selecting the three modes easy, but achieving a natural rhythm, volume, and pauses requires practice. It is recommended to test all modes in a calm environment before hunting.

When is the Johnny Stewart 3-N-1 the right choice?

The Johnny Stewart 3-N-1 is suitable for hunters who want to cover close, mid, and long-range calling with one compact call. The rotating mouthpiece lets you change sounds without carrying three separate calls and quickly react to changes in wind or predator distance.

An open-reed predator call may be a better choice for users who want more freedom and detail in shaping the sound themselves. An electronic caller is more suitable if you need a wider selection of sounds or want to play calls away from the hunter, provided its use is allowed in your location and hunting method.

Expert tip

Start your calling session with a lower volume. If a predator is nearby, starting with a loud long-range call can overly draw attention to the caller’s position. Make a short series of calls, take a few minutes’ pause, and calmly observe your surroundings. If there is no response, gradually move to a louder mode.

When choosing a location, consider the wind. A predator may try to approach from downwind, so the hunter should have a good view in that direction. Avoid unnecessary movements when switching calls or handling your firearm.

After use, clean the mouthpiece with clean lukewarm water and allow the call to dry completely before storage. Do not use hot water or strong cleaning agents, as these may damage the internal sound parts. Practice making the three distinct sounds before hunting so they are clearly recognizable.
