Frequently Asked Questions

Is the AVBMSR2236 suitable for a .223 Remington rifle?

Yes. .223 Remington falls within the manufacturer-specified .22–.270 caliber range. Use a brush or jag suitable for .22/.223/5.56 mm barrels.

Can this rod be used to clean a .22 LR rifle?

Yes, if the firearm's construction allows safe cleaning with a rod and the appropriate tip for .22 caliber is used. For especially narrow bores, check that the rod and connection diameter move without obstruction.

Is the rod suitable for .17 caliber?

Not recommended. The manufacturer-specified compatibility starts from .22 caliber. For .17 caliber, use a thinner rod designed specifically for that size.

Is the rod suitable for .270 caliber?

The manufacturer’s caliber range extends up to .270. Since .270 is at the boundary of two Smart Rod size ranges, check the compatibility of the brush, jag, and rod used, and prefer a solution that moves straight in the barrel without excessive flex.

Why is a wall holder included?

A one-piece cleaning rod should be stored vertically. The wall holder reduces the risk of bending, side pressure, or being trapped under other objects.

When is the Real Avid Smart Rod 91 cm .22 the right choice?

This rod is a good choice for owners of .22–.270 caliber rifles who want a rigid, one-piece cleaning rod with a rotating handle. The slimmer construction is particularly suitable for rifles with a smaller bore, including .22, .223, .243, and various 6–6.5 mm calibers.

For .30 caliber and larger firearms, choose the stronger AVBMSR3036. For very long barrels over 91 cm or special receiver configurations, check before purchase that the 36-inch rod with jag reaches fully through the barrel.

We recommend

We recommend measuring the total length required to clean the barrel and receiver before purchase. The cleaning rod with the attached brush or jag must reach fully through the barrel without the handle or connection pressing against the firearm. Use a bore guide placed in the chamber whenever possible.

Before maintenance, remove the magazine, unload the firearm, and check the chamber. Select an 8-32 thread brush or jag that matches the caliber exactly and do not force an oversized tip through the barrel. Allow the Ultra-Glide bearing to rotate freely—forcing the handle to stay still reduces the rod’s ability to follow the rifling. After cleaning, wipe the carbon fiber rod dry and hang it on the included holder.
