Frequently Asked Questions

How many cartridges does the holder fit?

The holder has two elastic cartridge loops.

Which calibers does the holder fit?

According to the manufacturer, the loops are suitable for cartridges ranging from .223 Remington to .300 Winchester Magnum. The fit for a specific cartridge should be checked before use.

Where is the holder attached?

The holder is attached around the rifle forend so that the cartridges are positioned horizontally near the supporting hand.

Does the holder fit every rifle?

It fits most standard forends, but a very wide, unusually shaped, or accessory-equipped forend may limit compatibility.

When is the Castle Rock Forend the right choice?

This holder is suitable for the hunter who wants to keep only two spare cartridges as quickly accessible as possible. Cartridges mounted on the forend are conveniently close to the supporting hand, and the holder does not cover the cheekpiece.

If you need more than two cartridges or want to keep ammunition protected from the weather, choose a higher-capacity buttstock holder or a flap belt pouch.

Recommendations

We recommend checking the position of the holder with your usual shooting stance and rifle sling before going hunting. The holder should not restrict your supporting hand grip, press against the free-floating barrel, or block the sling attachment point.

Test the fit of each cartridge type you use individually. The loop must hold the cartridge securely when carrying the rifle, but removing the cartridge should not require excessive force. If the loop is wet or stretched out, let the holder dry and check it again.

Natural leather should not be left wet for long periods. Dry the holder at room temperature and use a suitable leather care product if necessary.

Two spare cartridges right next to your supporting hand

The Allen Castle Rock Forend is a compact full leather cartridge holder that keeps two rifle cartridges quickly accessible. It is a practical choice for hunters who prefer low capacity and minimal added bulk.
