S&B .222 REM. SP 3,24 G

The S&B .222 Rem. SP 3.24 g is a centrefire hunting cartridge loaded with a 50-grain semi-jacketed soft-point bullet. Its exposed lead tip initiates controlled expansion, while the engineered jacket helps the bullet retain weight and transfer energy efficiently on impact.

Frequently asked questions

What does SP mean?

SP means Soft Point. Part of the lead core is exposed at the nose of the bullet, helping expansion begin on impact. The resulting increase in diameter improves energy transfer compared with a conventional full-metal-jacket bullet.

Can this cartridge be used in a .223 Remington rifle?

No. .222 Remington and .223 Remington are dimensionally different cartridges. V330122 must only be used in a serviceable firearm specifically marked for .222 Remington. It is also unsuitable for firearms chambered in .222 Remington Magnum.

How does an SP bullet differ from an FMJ bullet?

An SP bullet is designed to expand and is primarily intended for hunting. An FMJ bullet normally deforms less and is more commonly selected for training and target shooting. The correct construction must be chosen for the intended use and applicable regulations.

What is a practical hunting distance for this load?

The manufacturer lists 1,009 J of energy at 100 metres and 639 J at 200 metres. A suitable hunting distance cannot be determined from energy alone. Quarry, shot placement, shooting position, weather, rifle accuracy and local hunting requirements must also be considered.

Will the published ballistics exactly match my rifle?

Not necessarily. Sellier & Bellot obtained its figures with a 600 mm test barrel. Barrel length, rifling twist, temperature and ammunition lot can alter velocity and point of impact. Confirm the rifle’s zero at a suitable shooting range whenever changing ammunition.

How many cartridges are supplied in one box?

One factory box contains 20 cartridges.

When is S&B .222 Rem. SP 3.24 g the right choice?

This cartridge is intended for .222 Remington owners who need a traditional expanding hunting bullet. Its light, fast 3.24-gram projectile provides a relatively flat trajectory and moderate recoil, while the soft-point construction delivers more pronounced expansion and energy transfer than an FMJ bullet.

An FMJ load may be more economical or appropriate when training is the primary use. For precision target shooting, an HPBT load may offer advantages. Ammunition performance remains rifle-dependent, so the final choice should be based on controlled group and point-of-impact testing.

Expert recommendation

Always confirm that the firearm is marked specifically for .222 Remington. Bullet diameter alone does not establish compatibility, and .222 Remington, .223 Remington and .222 Remington Magnum cartridges are not interchangeable.

When opening a new ammunition lot, check the point of impact from a stable rest using a multi-shot group. Establish the maximum hunting distance from your demonstrated accuracy, the bullet’s remaining energy and applicable hunting rules. Store ammunition in a cool, dry and locked location, and never use a cartridge that is corroded, deformed or otherwise damaged.

A traditional 50-grain .222 Remington hunting load

S&B .222 Rem. SP 3.24 g combines high muzzle velocity, a controlled-expansion soft-point bullet and a factory brass case. It is a practical choice for hunters using a .222 Remington rifle who prefer a conventional 50-grain expanding projectile.
