Frequently asked questions

What does FMJBT mean?

FMJBT means Full Metal Jacket Boat-Tail. The projectile has a metal jacket covering its lead core and a tapered base intended to reduce aerodynamic drag.

Does the FMJBT bullet expand?

No. It is a non-expanding full-metal-jacket bullet primarily intended for training, target shooting and competition.

Can this ammunition be used for hunting?

Sellier & Bellot recommends it for range and competition use. Hunting normally requires a suitable expanding bullet and compliance with current hunting regulations.

Are 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5×55 SE the same calibre?

No. Although their bullet diameters are similar, their cases and chambers are different. The cartridges are not interchangeable.

When is S&B 6.5 Creedmoor FMJBT 9.1 g the right choice?

This load suits shooters looking for a traditional 140-grain full-metal-jacket bullet for regular 6.5 Creedmoor training or competition. Its 0.491 G1 coefficient and boat-tail profile support efficient velocity retention.

An HPBT load may be preferable when match accuracy is the main objective. For hunting, select an expanding bullet appropriate to the intended species, conditions and regulations.

Expert recommendation

Test accuracy and functioning in the intended rifle before purchasing a larger quantity. Individual 6.5 Creedmoor barrels can show preferences for different bullet weights and designs.

If FMJBT ammunition is used to practise for hunting, reconfirm the zero with the actual hunting load before entering the field. A similar bullet weight does not guarantee an identical trajectory or point of impact.
