Frequently Asked Questions

Is the red dot sight included?

No. The pistol is factory-prepared for the installation of a red dot sight, but the sight must be chosen separately. You will also need a CZ Shadow 2 OR adapter plate compatible with the specific sight's mounting standard.

Can a red dot sight be mounted directly on the slide?

Generally, no. The CZ Shadow 2 OR uses interchangeable adapter plates, allowing the installation of sights with different footprints. Before purchase, both the sight's footprint and the exact compatibility of the adapter plate must be checked.

Can mechanical sights be used without a red dot sight?

Yes. The factory-installed cover plate includes a rear sight, and the pistol has a fiber optic front sight. When installing a red dot sight, the factory cover plate and its rear sight are removed. The retention of the mechanical backup sight depends on the chosen adapter plate.

Does the CZ Shadow 2 OR have a decocker or safety?

The pistol does not have a decocker. It features an ambidextrous manual safety and a hammer safety notch. Safe use of the SA/DA system requires following the manufacturer's instructions and handling techniques acquired in firearms training.

What does magazine capacity 19+1 mean?

The magazine holds 19 rounds, and the "+1" refers to an additional round in the chamber. The actual loading allowed in competitions depends on the specific division rules.

Is the barrel threaded at the muzzle?

No. This variant's 120 mm barrel does not have a thread for attaching a suppressor or other muzzle device.

Is the CZ Shadow 2 OR suitable for IPSC Production Optics division?

The manufacturer describes this model as specifically designed for the IPSC Production Optics division. However, before a competition, you must check the current firearm list and organizer's rules, especially after changing the sight, adapter plate, grip panels, or magazine parts.

When is the CZ Shadow 2 Optics Ready the right choice?

This model is suitable for shooters who want a full-size, heavy steel-framed sport pistol and plan to use a slide-mounted red dot sight. The 1330-gram weight and low bore axis help keep the pistol stable during rapid shooting sequences, while the SA/DA trigger offers a distinctly different feel for the first and subsequent shots.

The standard CZ Shadow 2 is more practical if you plan to use only mechanical sights. The Shadow 2 Compact is smaller and lighter but does not offer the mass of the full-size steel-framed model. The Shadow 2 Orange OR is a higher-level alternative for shooters who want more factory competition setup and additional part fitting.

Expert recommendation

Select the red dot sight and adapter plate as a single unit. The sight's footprint, adapter plate screws, and their length must match precisely. Use the manufacturer-specified torque and threadlocker only if required by the adapter plate or sight instructions. After installation, check the sight's attachment and adjust the point of impact at a proper shooting range.

Before regular training, test the pistol with the ammunition you intend to use and with all magazines. Mark the magazines individually to make it easier to identify the cause of any malfunction. Regularly check the red dot sight mounting screws, fiber optic front sight, and magazine lips, and clean the firearm according to the manufacturer's instructions.
