Frequently asked questions

How does .22 WMR differ from .22 LR?

.22 WMR uses a longer case and generally delivers higher velocity and energy than .22 LR. It can provide a flatter trajectory and retain more energy at distance, although its ammunition is normally more expensive. The two cartridges are not interchangeable, and only the calibre marked on the rifle may be used.

Can a riflescope be installed?

Yes. The receiver has an 11 mm dovetail. Rings or a suitable adapter must match both this mounting interface and the tube diameter or mounting system of the selected optic.

Does the rifle have iron sights?

Yes. The CZ 457 LUX is supplied with traditional adjustable iron sights and can therefore be used without a riflescope.

Is the barrel threaded?

Yes. The 630 mm barrel has a 1/2×20 UNEF muzzle thread. Confirm the thread, calibre and legal compatibility of any muzzle accessory before installation.

How accurate is the CZ 457 LUX?

CZ assigns the model a 1 MOA accuracy class. Actual group size depends on the ammunition, shooting distance, weather, support, sighting system and shooter. Testing several .22 WMR loads under controlled conditions is the best way to identify the ammunition preferred by an individual rifle.

Is the trigger adjustable?

Yes. The rifle uses an adjustable single-stage trigger. The manufacturer’s manual gives an overall adjustment range of 8–15 N, while the variant specification lists a factory trigger pull of 11.1–14 N. Follow the manual precisely and perform the prescribed unloaded safety checks after any adjustment.

When is the CZ 457 LUX .22 WMR the right choice?

This model suits shooters who want the performance of the .22 WMR cartridge in a rifle with traditional European hunting-rifle styling. Its cheekpiece, walnut stock and standard iron sights distinguish the LUX from American-style models intended primarily for use with a riflescope.

.22 WMR is worth considering when low ammunition cost and the minimal report of .22 LR are not the only priorities, and greater velocity and retained energy are desirable. A .22 LR version may remain the more economical choice for high-volume practice at shorter distances.

Expert recommendation

Training with the iron sights helps develop a stable shooting position and consistent trigger control. When adding a riflescope, select good-quality mounts designed for an 11 mm dovetail and keep the optic low enough to maintain a natural head position on the cheekpiece.

.22 WMR rifles can produce noticeably different group sizes and points of impact with different loads. Once suitable ammunition has been identified, confirm the zero with that specific load. Before shooting, ensure that the bore is unobstructed, the thread protector or muzzle accessory is secure and only correctly marked .22 WMR ammunition is present.

Clean and maintain the rifle according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Whenever practical, introduce the cleaning rod or pull-through from the chamber end to reduce the risk of damaging the muzzle. Remove the magazine, verify that the chamber is empty and follow all applicable secure-storage requirements before putting the rifle away.

Classic styling with capable rimfire performance

The CZ 457 LUX .22 WMR combines a long cold-hammer-forged barrel, adjustable trigger and modern CZ 457 action with a traditional walnut stock and iron sights. It is a balanced choice for shooters who appreciate classic styling, versatile use and the additional performance of the .22 WMR cartridge.
