Frequently Asked Questions

Which cartridges can be used in the 12/89 Winchester SX4?

According to the manufacturer's instructions, the SX4 with a 12/89 chamber is suitable for use with appropriate 12/70, 12/76, and 12/89 cartridges. Use only factory ammunition that matches the markings on the firearm.

Which chokes are included in the set?

According to Jahipaun, the set includes Invector Plus 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 chokes. Before using steel shot, check the markings on the selected choke and the combinations permitted by the manufacturer.

How many cartridges does the shotgun hold?

The Jahipaun product page lists the magazine capacity as 2+1 rounds. Actual capacity may depend on the magazine limiter, cartridge length, and market version.

Is the Winchester SX4 Composite suitable for clay target shooting?

Yes. The 760 mm barrel, ventilated rib, and interchangeable chokes make the shotgun suitable for recreational clay shooting. For specialized competition shooting, a heavier sport model may offer more stability.

How does this differ from the SX4 Big Game Rifled model?

The SX4 Composite features a smoothbore Back-Bored barrel and interchangeable Invector Plus chokes. The Big Game Rifled version has a rifled barrel for slug ammunition and adjustable open sights.

What requirements apply to purchasing this firearm?

This is a restricted civilian firearm. Acquisition and transfer require the appropriate purchase or firearm license and proper identification.

When is the Winchester SX4 Composite the right choice?

This model is suitable for hunters who want a single semi-automatic shotgun for bird, small game, and waterfowl hunting, as well as for recreational clay target shooting. The 760 mm barrel supports smooth movement and stable aiming for flying targets.

In dense woods and for big game hunting, a shorter barrel model may be more maneuverable. If the main use is precise shooting with slug ammunition, the rifled-barrel SX4 Big Game Rifled is a more purposeful choice. For intensive sport shooting, a heavier competition shotgun with specialized stock ergonomics may offer better stability.

Recommendations

Always choose the choke according to the ammunition, shot size, and expected shooting distance. Before using steel shot, check both the barrel and choke markings, as not all full chokes are suitable for large or high-velocity steel shot. It's advisable to pattern test on paper, as ammunition with the same designation may produce different spreads in different firearms.

To maintain the reliability of the SX4 gas system, regularly clean the gas piston, barrel gas ports, and inside of the receiver. Chokes should occasionally be removed, cleaned, and installed with a thin layer of suitable lubricant to prevent thread seizing. The stock spacers allow for length of pull adjustment, but adjustments should be made while wearing hunting clothing and after ensuring the firearm is safely unloaded.

Versatile 12/89 semi-automatic hunting shotgun

It is a practical all-purpose semi-automatic shotgun for hunters who need a flexible 12-gauge firearm for various hunting situations.
