Frequently Asked Questions

Is this model an SX4 or SXP?

According to the manufacturer, product code 512428389 refers to the Winchester SXP Xtrem Defender Rifled model. The SXP is a manually operated pump-action shotgun, while the SX4 is a gas-operated semi-automatic.

Is the barrel smoothbore?

No. This configuration features a 610 mm rifled barrel, designed primarily for use with appropriate slugs.

What ammunition should be used?

Use only factory ammunition that matches the 12/76 marking and the manufacturer's instructions. To take advantage of the rifled barrel, choose suitable slugs and check their point of impact at the shooting range.

How many cartridges does the firearm hold?

The fixed tubular magazine holds four cartridges, and one cartridge can be in the chamber.

Is this model suitable for regular bird hunting?

The rifled barrel is optimized for slugs. For general hunting with shot loads, a smoothbore shotgun with interchangeable chokes is much more practical.

What are the requirements for purchase?

This is a firearm with restricted civilian circulation. A corresponding acquisition permit or firearm license and proper identification are required for purchase and transfer.

When is the Winchester SXP Xtrem Defender Rifled the right choice?

This model is suitable for users who want a manually operated 12/76 pump-action shotgun and mainly use slugs. The 610 mm rifled barrel distinguishes it from the regular Defender with a short smoothbore barrel.

For hunting with shot, clay pigeons, or using different chokes, a smoothbore model should be chosen. Hunters who prefer faster follow-up shots may consider the gas-operated SX4 Big Game Rifled.

Recommendation

With a rifled-barrel 12-gauge shotgun, ammunition should be chosen based on practical testing. Slugs of different construction and weight can give very different points of impact. Test your chosen ammunition at a certified shooting range and check your sights before each hunting season.

The reliability of a pump-action shotgun depends on a firm and complete cycling of the action. Practice handling the firearm with an unloaded, checked gun and follow the user manual. After shooting, clean the rifled barrel with a suitable brush and cleaning agent. It is especially important to remove lead and powder residue and to cover cleaned metal surfaces with a thin protective layer.

The Winchester SXP Xtrem Defender Rifled combines a 610 mm rifled barrel, 4+1 tubular magazine, and a reliable pump mechanism. It is a specialized choice for sport shooting and legal hunting with slugs.
