Frequently Asked Questions

Is the cheek rest adjustable?

Yes. The height of the cheek rest can be adjusted according to the sight used, but the length of pull is fixed in this configuration.

Can a red dot sight be mounted on the firearm?

Yes. The firearm features a top Picatinny rail. The chosen sight and mount must withstand the recoil of a 12-gauge firearm.

How many cartridges does the magazine hold?

According to Jahipaun, the tubular magazine holds five 12/70 cartridges. When using longer 12/76 cartridges, the actual capacity may be lower.

Is the barrel rifled?

No. The Dark Earth Defender’s 460 mm barrel is smoothbore and uses an interchangeable Breacher-type choke.

Is the firearm suitable for bird hunting?

Technically, suitability depends on the ammunition and choke, but due to the short barrel and this configuration, it is not as practical for regular bird hunting as a shotgun with a 710–760 mm barrel.

What are the requirements for purchase?

This is a firearm with restricted civilian circulation. Purchase and transfer require the appropriate acquisition permit or firearms license, as well as proper identification.

When is the Winchester SXP Defender Xtrem Dark Earth the right choice?

This model is suitable for shooters seeking a compact 12/76 pump-action shotgun with an adjustable cheek rest and optic rails for sporting target shooting. The pistol grip and Ghost Ring sight distinguish it from the standard SXP with a hunting stock.

If you need a longer tubular magazine, the SXP Defender High Capacity is more suitable. For accuracy with slugs, consider the SXP Xtrem Defender Rifled model with a rifled barrel. For bird and small game hunting, the SX4 Field with a longer barrel is more practical.

Recommendations

Adjust the cheek rest only after selecting your sight and mount. With the correct height, your eye will naturally align with the sight axis, and you won’t have to raise your head unnaturally to aim. Make sure that accessories mounted on the rail do not interfere with loading, using the safety, or inspecting the chamber.

The pump-action mechanism requires a firm and complete cycling motion. Practice handling only with an unloaded, safety-checked firearm and according to the manufacturer’s instructions. After shooting, clean the barrel, chamber, action, and magazine tubes. The chromed interior makes maintenance easier but does not make the firearm maintenance-free.
