Frequently Asked Questions

How big is the Universal Smart Mat?

The working surface measures approximately 109.2 × 40.6 cm or 43 × 16 inches. This is long enough for the maintenance of most full-size rifles and shotguns.

Can the mat also be used for cleaning pistols?

Yes. The large mat can be used for pistol maintenance, but for a smaller work surface, the Handgun Smart Mat is a more compact and convenient solution.

Does the mat prevent the firearm from slipping on the table?

The base of the mat reduces slipping but does not rigidly fix the firearm. For tasks requiring more force, use a gun rest, maintenance stand, or suitable vise block.

Does the mat have a firearm assembly diagram?

No. The Universal Smart Mat is universal and suitable for different types of long guns. If you need a model-specific assembly diagram, choose a maintenance mat designed for a specific firearm platform.

Are cleaning agents included?

No. The set includes the maintenance mat with the parts tray. Brushes, cleaning rods, patches, oils, and solvents must be selected separately.

When is the Real Avid Universal Smart Mat the right choice?

The Universal Smart Mat is suitable for firearm owners who maintain various rifles and shotguns and need a large, model-independent work surface. The integrated parts tray helps separate small parts from the firearm and cleaning agents.

If you need to hold the firearm upright or in a fixed working position, complement the mat with a Speed Stand or a stronger maintenance station. For pistol maintenance only, the Handgun Smart Mat is smaller and easier to store.

Recommendations

We recommend placing the mat on a flat surface so that the parts tray is easily accessible during work. Before placing the firearm on the mat, remove the magazine and ammunition and check the chamber. Place removed screws, pins, and springs in the tray step by step as you work.

When cleaning a long gun, ensure that the muzzle does not extend over the edge of the table or rest on a hard surface. When using a cleaning rod, a separate gun rest is more convenient and helps avoid lateral pressure on the muzzle or chamber.

Wipe oil and solvent off the mat immediately after finishing work. Before rolling up the mat, remove metal shavings, soot, and other abrasive particles and allow the surface to dry completely. This keeps the work surface clean and prevents scratching your firearm's finish during the next use.
