Frequently Asked Questions

How do you use the Scent-A-Way Windicator?

Hold the bottle upright, point the opening away from yourself, and gently squeeze the bottle. Watch which direction the powder cloud moves in the air. A small amount is sufficient, and there’s no need to use excessive powder.

Does the wind direction indicator have a scent?

The manufacturer describes the talc powder as scentless. This allows you to check wind direction without adding any intentional masking or attractant scent.

Does the Windicator also show wind strength?

You can estimate the direction and approximate character of the airflow by observing the powder cloud, but the product does not measure wind speed as a numerical value. For precise speed measurement, an anemometer is required.

Is it enough to check the wind direction only once?

No. In the forest, on slopes, at the edge of a clearing, and around the ambush spot, air movement can change over short distances. Check the wind before approaching and then regularly throughout the hunt.

Does the wind direction indicator work in rain and high humidity?

Humidity can cause the powder to clump in the bottle, and rain reduces the visibility of the powder cloud in the air. Keep the bottle dry, close the cap after use, and use it in sheltered areas during precipitation whenever possible.

Can the powder be inhaled?

The fine powder should not be intentionally inhaled. Point the bottle opening away from your face, avoid contact with eyes, and use the product according to the instructions on the packaging.

When is Scent-A-Way Windicator the right choice?

Scent-A-Way Windicator is suitable for hunters who need a simple, quiet, and ready-to-use tool for checking wind direction. It is especially useful in the forest, at the edge of clear-cuts, and in uneven terrain where vegetation movement may not clearly indicate weak or swirling air currents.

An electronic anemometer is a better choice if you also need to measure the exact wind speed in addition to direction. In rain, fog, and very humid conditions, the powder may disperse less effectively, so it is advisable to also use a light thread, natural vegetation, or another visible wind indicator.

Expert tip

Check the wind before even entering the hunting area, not just when you reach your ambush spot. This allows you to choose a route that reduces the chance your scent will drift across the animal’s usual paths or feeding areas. While in ambush, do a quick check each time you feel a temperature change, notice the wind dying down, or see vegetation moving in different directions.

When using, keep the bottle in front of your body and the opening away from your face. A short, gentle squeeze usually produces a more visible powder cloud than releasing a large amount at once. Watch the cloud’s movement as far as possible: near the ground, air may move in one direction, while higher up it may move in another.

Store the bottle in a separate, sealable pocket and protect it from moisture. The wind direction indicator does not replace scent control or a good approach plan, but it provides valuable information at the right moment so you can adjust your position or movement direction accordingly.
