FAQ

Is the Sako Quad Heavy Barrel suitable for target shooting?

Yes. The free-floating heavy barrel and Monte Carlo-style cheekpiece make this version especially suitable for range and supported-position shooting.

How many rounds does the Sako Quad .22 LR magazine hold?

The standard metal magazine holds five rounds. A 10-round magazine is available separately.

Can a riflescope be fitted to the rifle?

Yes. The receiver has an integral 11 mm dovetail for compatible scope mounts. The riflescope and mounts are normally purchased separately.

Does the heavy barrel make the rifle less suitable for carrying?

At 3.2 kg without accessories, this model is heavier than the standard Sako Quad Synthetic. The additional weight improves stability but may be less convenient during long periods of mobile hunting.

When is this model the right choice?

The Sako Quad Heavy Barrel is a good choice when stability, repeatable accuracy and frequent range use are more important than minimum weight. Its heavy barrel is particularly useful during longer shooting sessions, as the increased barrel mass helps manage heat during repeated firing.

For hunting that involves extensive walking or shooting mainly from unsupported positions, the lighter Sako Quad Synthetic may be more practical. Shooters who need a more adjustable competition-style stock should instead consider the Sako Quad Range MT. Sako’s current model overview provides additional context for these variants on the official Sako Quad page.

Expert recommendation

The Sako Quad Heavy Barrel is best suited to shooters who want one rimfire rifle for regular range practice and occasional small-game hunting. Compared with lighter hunting-profile models, its 3.2 kg weight and heavy barrel make the rifle steadier when shooting from a bench, rest or bipod. The trade-off is that it feels less agile when carried over long distances.

A suitable riflescope and properly matched .22 LR ammunition are important for getting the most from the rifle. Rimfire barrels can show noticeable accuracy differences between ammunition types, so it is worth testing several bullet weights and product lines rather than selecting ammunition solely by price. The five-round magazine is adequate for hunting and deliberate target shooting, while the optional 10-round magazine is more convenient for extended range practice. Before purchasing scope mounts, confirm that they are designed for the rifle’s integral 11 mm dovetail.

A dependable heavy-barrel rimfire rifle

The Sako Quad Heavy Barrel combines a stable synthetic stock, cold-hammer-forged 560 mm barrel and proven bolt-action design in an accurate .22 LR package. It is a strong choice for shooters who value controlled handling and consistent performance during regular range sessions.
